This qualification reflects the roles of flight crew personnel operating in support of commercial or Defence aviation flight operations. Flight crew duties include applying technical and non-technical aviation skills and knowledge to a wide range of air transport operations, including passenger, charter and cargo operations while operating aeroplanes or helicopters under the instrument flight rules (IFR). Individuals working at this level will apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility in known or changing contexts within broad but established parameters. This qualification forms some of the requirements for an Instrument Rating certification by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as directed by Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 61 Flight crew licensing.


· Hold AVI50215 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane);
· Hold CASA Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane);
· Current CASA Flight Crew Class I Aviation Medical Certificate;
· Current Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC);
· Aviation ICAO English Level 5 (or above); and
· Conduct an interview and be recommended by the CEO (or its delegate) for course acceptance.

· Hold EITHER CASA Private Instrument Rating (PIR) or CASA Instrument Rating(IR) with:


SEA (PIR or IR); 

o Navigation – VOR/LLZ (PIR); 

o Navigation – GNSS (PIR); 

o Approach – VOR/LLZ (PIR); 

o Approach – DME or GNSS Arrival (PIR); and/or 

o Instrument Approach 2D (VOR & RNVA) (IR).



The tuition fee of AVI50415 is made up of five sub-categories:

1. Books and equipment;

2. Uniform;

3. Practical Training;

4. Theoretical Assessment; and

5. Practical Assessment.


Shall a start-up student elect to purchase all five sub-categories as listed in the presentation on your right-hand side, the AVI50415 course fee comes to $29,400.00AUD. For a student who continues their study here at FAC (after graduating from our AVI50215), the AVI50415 course fee comes to $25,000.00 AUD (as there are equipment the student would have purchased already during their AVI50215 course)


Note: there are items that must be purchased/equipped by the student themselves and the associated cost is not included in the tuition fee.

· Classroom lectures and guided study;

· Practical in-flight training (standard program: 20.5 hours Dual);

· Synthetic training (flight simulator)(standard program: 15.0 hours Dual)


· Intake every February, July and October
· 16 weeks full-time 


As per the Packaging Rule, there is a total of 13 units of competency comprising:

·12 core units; and
·1elective units

5 of these 13 units can be Credit Transferred from AVI50215. The other 8 units are mapped to the CASA MOS.

All Trainers/Flight Instructors of FAC are appropriately qualified and hold the appropriate Licence, Rating(s), Endorsement(s) and Vocational Qualification(s) for what they are approved to teach in. They are all ICAO English Level 5 (or higher) holders. Each Flight Instructor is subject to a Standards and Proficiency Check with the HoO every six months. In addition, the Flight Instructor must also pass a Flight Instructor Rating Proficiency Check with CASA every twenty-four months. These are to ensure that our Flight Instructors are always delivering the course at a high standard.
