OVERVIEW

Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL) is a new flight crew licence introduced on 1 of September 2014.

It authorises Pilots to fly light single engine aircraft by day as Pilot-In-Command (PIC) independently of a flying school, without supervision.

It is the basic flight crew licence you will need to enjoy flying on weekends with family and friends!

PRIVILEGES & ENDORSEMENTS

Privileges:

· Act as PIC of a single engine (non-turbine nor rocket powered) aircraft that is under 1500kg Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) in daylight

· Carry family and friends for private operation

· Fly within 25nm of the departure aerodrome and/or in the designated training area of the Part 141 Flight Training Organisation

Endorsements:

·  Flight Radio Endorsement

·  Controlled Aerodrome Endorsement

·  Controlled Airspace Endorsement

·   Navigation Endorsement

ENROLMENT CRITIERIA

To Enrol:

· Be minimum of 15 years of age;

· Meet CASA General English Language Proficiency (GELP) Standards

· Be eligible for a CASA Flight Crew Class II Aviation Medical Certificate;
· Be eligible for a CASA Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC); and
· Conduct an interview and be recommended by the CEO (or its delegate) for course acceptance.



To Hold RPL:

· Be a minimum of 16 years of age;
· Completed Flight Training at a CASA Part 141 Flight Training Organisation;
· Have a minimum of 25 hours total aeronautical experience (of which at least 5 hours as PIC);
· Hold ICAO English Level 4 (or higher);
· Hold CASA Flight Crew Class II Aviation Medical Certificate;
· Hold CASA Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC);
· Pass CASA RPL (Aeroplane) Theory Examination; and
· Pass CASA RPL (Aeroplane) Flight Test

TUITION FEE

The tuition fee of RPL is made up of five sub-categories:

1. Books and equipment;

2. Uniform;

3. Practical Training;

4. Theoretical Assessment; and

5. Practical Assessment.

Note: there are items that must be purchased/equipped by the student themselves and the associated cost is not included in the tuition fee

TRAINERS & INSTRUCTORS

All Trainers/Flight Instructors of FAC are appropriately qualified and hold the appropriate Licence, Rating(s), Endorsement(s) and Vocational Qualification(s) for what they are approved to teach in. They are all ICAO English Level 5 (or higher) holders and receives continuous training to further develop their teaching skills on a day-to-day basis.
